Our family has been working with North By Nature Landscapes for several years now to do shore restoration and landscaping. Working with them has been terrific. I own a house with my siblings on an inland lake, and we needed to protect the shoreline from erosion. Bret Huntman was responsive and helpful as we worked through the process, the cost and understood why the work was so necessary to protect our property.

We talked with two different companies and decided to work with North By Nature, and I am so happy we did. Bret has tailored the work to our site and budget. He has been available to answer questions as we went through the process and each year thereafter. The shoreline looks beautiful, and the plants are growing in as expected. I highly recommend them. North by Nature Landscapes has been a tremendous help in the summer months, caring for a large selection of flowers at our Bay Harbor home. We met Sarah while she was caring for a neighbor’s yard, and her friendly smile and quick response to our questions started a great relationship with them. We will begin a new project shortly and look forward to utilizing their landscape services from start to finish!

North by Nature has worked with our family for 10 years. Initially, providing shoreline remediation for an area that was subject to high winds and ice push. Several years later, we requested that they finish the shoreline remediation and add a native shoreline garden. As plans expanded, North by Nature planted a 2000′ SF native plant meadow on a septic field and installed a hardscape patio by the house. We rely on North by Nature for solid advice and we are pleased with their coordination with the state. Staff are educated, friendly, and responsive.

Bret Huntman and the rest of the crew at North by Nature Landscapes did a fantastic job of listening to what my wife and I conceptually wanted for our garden, and then delivered a stunning addition to our home.

The garden incorporates a variety of interesting plants to provide color, texture and fragrance throughout the spring, summer and fall. The plants complement the stone free-form patio that North By Nature Landscapes assembled like a giant jigsaw puzzle. The gardens and patio surround our one-hundred year old water feature like they have always been there together.

Words to describe the team members of “North by Nature Landscapes”; Professional, Determined, Diligent, Precise and Knowledgeable. All aspects of the project were studied, researched and  delivered, often during extreme weather conditions.

The result was exactly what we were looking for – a spectacular hardscape, beautiful plant material and wonderfully designed.

We contracted with Bret from North By Nature Landscapes last year for some help with our property on Crooked River in Brutus Mi. He helped us with soil erosion along the river bank. He came up with an excellent plan and he executed flawlessly.

He is a consummate professional who operates with the highest integrity. His work is outstanding and his pricing is very reasonable. His knowledge of plant species around our property was impressive.

His team all exhibited the same professionalism as Bret himself. Property was always cleaned up and he was always on time and dependable.

North by Nature Landscapes repaired and restored our beach front after a tough winter did damage when the ice went out. They designed it so that the ice would slide up the rock they installed. It has worked and it stood up well after a couple of tough winters. I had them come in and do a little repair to maintain and again they did a great job.

We had quite an ambitious hardscape project we envisioned on our property to provide access to a hillside overlooking Little Traverse Bay. Bret and his team worked tirelessly to create a beautiful set of stairs leading to a flagstone patio which they did ALL BY HAND! Bret came up with real workable solutions to the challenges we faced and we couldn’t be happier with the results.
