Jason Brabbs, MLA, is a landscape designer and has been with North By Nature Landscapes in Petoskey, Michigan since 2016. He believes that when it comes to designing and building durable and functional landscapes, aesthetics and sustainability, like health and beauty, are uniquely linked. Jason is committed to working with his clients to provide exceptional landscape solutions that also benefit our community and the environment.
A native Northern Michigander, Jason spent his childhood exploring shorelines, streams, and woodlands cultivating an appreciation and respect for our area's precious natural resources and scenic beauty. With a bachelor's degree in photography and visual communications, Jason went on to earn a master's in landscape architecture in 2005 from the Ohio State University. After working in private practice, he returned to OSU as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Knowlton School of Architecture where he taught courses on stormwater management, sustainable site planning, construction materials and methods, and landscape history.
Jason returned to Northern Michigan in 2013 and joined the North By Nature team in 2015. He loves to incorporate native plants and natural materials into his designs along with carefully selected and well-behaved favorites like lavender and sedums. He enjoys volunteering his time with the Little Traverse Conservancy and the Lake Charlevoix Association and sharing what he knows with local organizations like the Boyne Valley, Charlevoix, Cheboygan and Petoskey Garden Clubs and the Northern Michigan Master Gardeners by giving presentations on Native Greenbelt Gardens, Natural Shoreline Restorations and Pollinator Gardens.
