As part of the enhanced landscape plan for an established garden, an existing flight of flagstone steps was restored. These flagstone steps were laid down 20 years ago over native clay soils. The stones had settled and been undermined by erosion over time. The treads were no longer anchored and the walking surface was uneven. A significant number of the native stones were fractured and broken.
All the old stone was removed, and the sub-soils excavated to grade for the construction of a new base of crushed drain stone. After drain tile was installed, the new steps were set from the bottom up with the treads being secured by the overlying steps. The existing garden plants filled in quickly after the work was completed.
